If the hands of the clock are :
perpendicular in 15-minute spaces apart
in a straight line and opposite to each other in 30-minute spaces apart.
in a straight line when they coincide or opposite to each other.

opposite to each other for 11 times in 12 hours and 22 times in a day.

Short cut Method :
We can solve the above problem with out using the formula(To save time).
At time 3 degrees clock minute hand at 12 & hour hand at 3.
For coincide both the hands, the minute hand will have to move from 12 to 3 so it will take 15 minutes.
Answer is = 15(15/11) = 16(4/11)
Here 15>11 so divide the 15/11 the quotient is 1. reminder is 4. add the quotient to 15 i.e 15+1=16
